London – 6 September 2018: London Biggin Hill Airport is proving its commitment to creating opportunities for the local community with the return of its annual Aim High scholarship, a week-long aerospace educational programme set to take place during the October half term.
Organised in association with aviation charity fly2help, Aim High is designed to inspire young people to pursue careers in the aviation industry by providing them with hands-on experience of different jobs available in the sector. Each year, ten students aged between 15 and 18 are chosen to participate following a thorough application process, including an interview.
Colin Hitchins, community engagement manager, London Biggin Hill Airport says: “Our initiatives to attract, inspire and train new aviation talent are vital to supporting our position as Europe’s fastest-growing business aviation airport. Aim High is part of a plan to ensure sustainable growth by motivating young people to consider a career in aviation, and comes as the airport prepares to launch the new London Aerospace & Technology College in 2019.
“This is where our local community is indispensable. As a key employer in the area, it’s our vision to attract generations of the same family to work at London Biggin Hill and in the last 12 months, we’ve increased employment from 1,000 to 1,300 jobs. We’re looking forward to welcoming ten of the airport’s next potential recruits during this year’s Aim High scholarship week.”
Applications for this year’s Aim High scholarship close on 17 September, with interviews taking place on 30 September. The programme will take place the week commencing 22 October. Visit www.fly2help.org/aim-high to apply.
