London – 16th April 2018: A 32 Squadron BAe146 aircraft carrying Royal Air Force veterans touched down at London Biggin Hill Airport, Britain’s most famous RAF fighter station during the Second World War, on Friday as part of the RAF’s Centenary Baton Relay.

There it was welcomed by Will Curtis, Managing Director of London Biggin Hill, Senior RAF members, air cadets and special guests including the Mayor of the London Borough of Bromley, Councillor Kathy Bance MBE, who were on site to witness the formal RAF Baton handover ceremony.

The specially designed baton, carried by RAF personnel, cadets and veterans passed through London Biggin Hill Airport as part of a 100-day mission to visit 100 places of historical significance across the UK and abroad. Its journey began at the Royal Courts of Justice on April 1, exactly 100 years since the formation of the Royal Air Force.

Veterans, Squadron Leader Martin Grugeon and Squadron Leader Tom Rosser, assisted by the Mayor, passed the baton to Senior RAF Cadet Billie, who will ensure its continued passage.

Andy Patsalides, marketing manager, London Biggin Hill Airport, said: “It is fitting that the airport, which played such a crucial role in the Battle of Britain, should take part in honouring the service and sacrifices made by Royal Air Force personnel over the last 100 years.”
