FLYING SCHOLAR BEN AKHTAR KITTED OUT COURTESY OF ADAMS AVIATION

**Closing date for 2018 scholarships extended to 17th November**

Biggin Hill Airport Flying Scholar Ben Akhtar tries out his new kit in the cockpit of an EFG Flying School training aircraft.

Ben Akhtar, the 18-year old winner of the Biggin Hill Airport Flying Scholarship award for 2017 was invited recently to the Adams Aviation Supply Co showroom in New Addington to receive items of  professional pilot kit that will help him on his way as a student.

Stephen Gosling, MD at Adams Aviation, presented Ben with a top-of-the-range David Clark pilot’s headset; the latest version of the navigation pad that straps to the knee for recording navigation data in flight and the modern style flight bag used for carrying maps, charts and other pilot navigation information.

Back at Biggin Hill Airport the next day, Ben was trying out the new kit in the cockpit. (see picture)   He said that he was very grateful to Adams Aviation for their high quality gifts, observing that the David Clark headset was extremely comfortable to wear.

Adams Aviation Supply Co are supporting sponsors to the Nick Davidson Memorial Flying Scholarship (NDMFS) scheme, together with Shipping & Airlines, the aircraft maintenance facility and the Bamrah family of  Falcon Flying Services.

To date, Ben has flown two hours on his PPL course and commenced studies for the nine ground examinations.  He is required to pass the Air Law exam before his first solo flight and this now has priority.

As Ben’s training gets into its stride, the focus now switches to the two flying scholarships on offer for 2018, the Nick Davidson Memorial Flying Scholarship and the Biggin Hill Airport Flying Scholarship Award.

Gary Merchant, Chairman of the Selection Panel invites applications from young men and women in the age range 15 – 25 to aspire to become professional pilots.   Applicants must be capable of passing the CAA medical examination for the licence

“Applications for the two scholarships for training in 2018 should include a CV and a letter setting out why the applicant should be awarded the PPL training” he says.

Applications can be filed by e-mail to ndmfs@bigginhillairport.com or sent by Royal Mail to Melanie Courtney, Terminal Building, Biggin Hill Airport, Bromley TN16 3BH.  The envelope should be marked NDMFS.  The closing date has been extended to Friday 17th November.
