London – 24th October: During an official visit to London Biggin Hill Airport last Thursday, the UK’s Aviation Minister Lord Callanan commended the sound job creation and infrastructure development plans to be implemented at the airport over the next twenty years.

Lord Callanan visited the site to discuss the airport’s vision and attend a special ceremony for the unveiling of an official brochure for LoCATE, entitled ‘The Case for Growth’ and co-authored by prominent London based architectural firm, Farrells. LoCATE, London Centre for Aviation, Technology and Enterprise, is a partnership of public and private sector organisations promoting London Biggin Hill Airport as a centre for the aerospace industry.

Speaking at the ceremony, Will Curtis, Managing Director, London Biggin Hill Airport, said: “LoCATE upholds our vision of a sustainable future for the airport and the local community by honouring our proud history and investing in both infrastructure and personnel growth. As a pioneer for business aviation in the UK, a large part of our focus is on training a new generation of aerospace industry professionals and creating 2,300 new jobs by 2030.

“As detailed in the brochure, the establishment of the London Aerospace and Technology College (LATC) at the airport is a major part of our commitment to addressing the shortage of aerospace engineers and the wider skills needs of the aviation industry.”

During the visit, Lord Callanan was shown the 60,000 sq. ft hangar and 10,000 sq. ft office block, part of the airport’s major new infrastructure development that is on track for completion by Christmas. He also toured Bombardier’s new Service Centre before being transferred back to central London by the airport’s celebrated Heli Shuttle service, which, at just six minutes, is known as the fastest transfer to and from the centre of London.
