The Sevenoaks Town FC U16 team during a recent visit to London Biggin Hill Airport

The U16 team at Sevenoaks Town Football Club have achieved promising results this season, reaching the semi-finals in the Kent Youth League and showing quality team-work in the Kent League Cup.

Sponsored by London Biggin Hill Airport at the commencement of the current season, the U16 team are currently 6th in the League with seven games in hand and only eight points behind the leaders.

Three members of the U16’s have had trials with the Club’s 1st team.  For Harry Earls, Darren Copper and Steve McCarthy, this represents a vote of confidence in their emerging abilities.

Of particular merit is the recent achievement by the U16 team manager, 21-year old Toby Lansdale, in successfully qualifying for his UEFA ‘B’ coaching badge, making him one of the youngest coaches in the UK holding this qualification.

Furthermore, seven of the U16 team are now studying for their FA level 1 coaching badge.  When qualified, they will be coaching the U7 to U10 teams in their early steps in learning the ‘beautiful game’

Looking ahead, the U16 team will be flying to Spain at the end of June to train with the Benfica Academy and to challenge the Benfica U16 team in a short series of matches.

The Sevenoaks Town Football Club now manages 53 teams, including two that compete in powered wheelchairs.

Robert Walters, Business Development Director at the airport, says that achievements of the U16 team are commendable.

“Sevenoaks Town Football Club is a fine example of a well managed club with youth at the heart of their interest.  We are delighted to be sponsoring the teams’ development in particular and the efforts of the Club overall for the skills that they are bringing for the benefit of evolving young generations in this community” he said.
