Delivering Quality and Flexibility

Biggin Hill Airport is situated in South London. It is the Capital’s premier Business and General Aviation Airport as well as being a very important cluster of modern aviation companies employing close to 1,000 people.

The airport is an invaluable gateway to London and is “homebase” to hundreds of business and private aircraft.

Business and General Aviation is usually taken to mean all aeroplane and helicopter flying, other than that performed by the major passenger airlines and the Armed Forces. In the UK there are over 8,000 General Aviation aircraft representing more than 90% of the civil aircraft registered in the country. Also many more from Europe, the USA and further afield increasingly visit London as a world city.

The key to Biggin Hill’s role is its flexibility and ability to accommodate specialist demands, such as an annual Airshow and the London to Sydney air race. These are in addition to the very wide range of everyday activities which include: medical emergency and transplant flights, corporate shuttles for company employees, aerial police work, royal flights, VIP and leisure group travel packages - amongst many more. We are also a UK approved air entry point for dogs and cats.

The airport regularly hosts other specialist activities too… new car launches, company incentive schemes, sports teams and supporters, and so on. This is all on top of the daily routine of private business flights by aircraft owners, charters of business aircraft and training flights.

Government policy as set out in the Airports White Paper of December 2003, is that small airports like Biggin Hill have an important role in meeting local demand and relieving pressure on main airports. The White Paper states that better use should be made of existing runways, that Biggin Hill Airport’s potential should not be overlooked and its development supported, subject to relevant environmental considerations.

The airport always seeks to be a good neighbour and balance the economic, social and environmental benefits and responsibilities of its activities, whilst moving with the times and being of service to its core customers, visitors to London and the local community
